Title: GIS Specialist
Location: Charlotte, NC
Experience working with GIS applications in a Gas utility environment is highly desirable.
Smallworld GIS experience is highly desirable.
Minimum qualifications for the GIS Specialist position will include: i. Associate’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field or equivalent work experience; ii. 2 or more years of work experience in database entry and support with experience in the use of GIS and AutoCAD; iii. Knowledge in the use of the following systems/applications: o Principles and practices of GIS, GPS, and cartography; o AutoCAD software and file structures, as they relate to GIS applications; o Source data used to create maps; o Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); o GIS software (ArcGIS, Smallworld GIS); iv. Demonstrated effective analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills; v. Business and technical understanding of the applications; vi. Ability to integrate source data into systems of record; vii. Ability to effectively interact with both business and technical staff, provide quality customer service and support users with inquiries; viii. Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough in reviewing data for accuracy; and ix. Ability to facilitate training. B. The tasks to be performed by the GIS Specialist include but are not limited to: i. Edit and transpose complex data from records, maps, AutoCAD drawings, GPS, county landbase maps and other source documents into Piedmont’s geographic Information System (“GIS”) and/or related systems; ii. Read and interpret maps and other source data; iii. Maintain asset systems data by entering as-built data into systems of record in a timely manner, maintaining pipeline records on GIS, processing GPS data, preparing and printing detailed drawings; iv. Work on project designs by plotting routes, fittings, valves, encroachments, Right of Ways (“ROW”), preparing design field drawings, anode, valve drawings, and producing construction prints (as applicable); v. Perform geocoding tasks; vi. Perform in-depth quality review of data entered by other users and provide feedback to the users; and vii. Performs other duties as assigned by the company represantative.
