This position requires the ideal candidate to understand and implement the various ways in which GIS can provide value added benefits throughout the City in general, and the Public Works Department in particular. This position is a part of the enterprise GIS team, a Division of the Information Technology Services Department. Work location for this position will primarily be based out of the Public Works Department with visits to other City offices to collaborate with other Public Works and Information Technology staff. The position will primarily be responsible for the proliferation of GIS in the Public Works Department, which includes water utilities operation, sewer utilities operation, stormwater utilities operation, engineering, sanitation, and sustainability. The duties of this position will include all of those duties set forth in the official job description. Some specific duties are highlighted as follows:
Perform continuous assessments of GIS needs in the Public Works Department.
Make recommendations on how GIS and related technologies can be used to facilitate improvements in the quality of work and efficiency in the Public Works Department.
Implement customer-facing GIS technology, including Esri application templates.
Participate in implementing, and possibly administering, the Cityworks asset management system for water, sewer, and stormwater utilities.
Fulfill requests for spatial analysis, mapping, and report generation using the ArcGIS suite of products.
Perform data analytics and mining of GIS and relational data.
Update and quality check data primarily depicting aspects of the City's water, sewer, and stormwater utility networks.
Write scripts and configure tools to automate repetitive tasks and facilitate data transfer.
Design, build and modify complex geodatabases.
Provide technical support and consulting to users of Esris ArcGIS products.
Conduct user training for Esris ArcGIS products.
May occasionally use survey grade GPS units to field-verify utility asset locations.

This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Federation of Public Employees and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Federation of Public Employees.
Management Category V job classification for benefits purposes.

1. Have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information processing, geography, engineering, mathematics, urban and regional planning, or a closely related field.
2. Have at least two (2) years of work experience in the GIS field to include experience using Esri's ArcGIS suite of products. An appropriate Master's degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

1. GIS experience working with utility networks is not necessary but desirable.
2. Preference will be given to candidates with a high degree of proficiencies in the items listed in the Supplemental Questions as a part of the official application.
THE EXAMINATION AND HOW TO APPLY:
Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify.
An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J204).
