Title: GIS Technician

VETRO FiberMap is looking for a GIS Analyst to step into a production and data conversion role with a growing workload of geodata projects relating to telecommunications network mapping. The job title is GIS Technician because some of the work is digitizing and we don't want to obscure that. However there is plenty of problem solving and analysis to go with. And the ideal candidate will also have an aptitude for automation and scripting workflows.
You should be a well organized, driven, self starter who loves to find, develop, compile, standardize and otherwise waltz with geospatial data of all kinds. You'll be working with parcels and assessing records and building footprints - creating mapping of network endpoint address targets - bringing CAD map messes into GIS harmony - ripping unstructured source material into structured tables - cleaning geometry - relating tables, fields, and map objects - etc, etc.
The duties include:
Serving as technical staff on geospatial data compilation, development, and conversion projects;
Implementing QA procedures;
Assisting with setup of field data collection projects as needed;
Interacting with clients;
Designing and implementing Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) workflows;
Scripting data editing and loading in Python
Database schema design and data normalization to support data maintenance and application requirements;
Editing geospatial data sets in PostgreSQL/PostGIS using QGIS, ArcGIS Desktop, and/or MapInfo;
Contributing to our application development team by preparing data and services for web mapping applications;
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of professional experience and at least a Bachelors degree in Geography/GIS or related or equivalent applied work experience.
Desired skills and experience:
Utilities data management, especially telecommunications
Use of mobile data collection tools/platforms
ETL using FME or similar
Creative applications of GIS for business
Proven ability to be a team player in a small company environment
Database skills including relational schema design and SQL fluency
Desktop GIS tool mastery; QGIS, MapInfo Pro, or ArcGIS
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Bonus points for crossover experience in;
Open source geospatial tools
Server administration, especially Amazon EC2
Proposals and estimating for geospatial projects
