Title: GIS Specialist
Location: Naples, Italy
The GIS Specialist will perform utility system technical GIS expertise in support of Public Works and Asset Management programs and initiatives. Will serve as utilities GIS technical expert in the NAVFAC EURAFSWA GeoReadiness Center regarding GIS related technology. Will act as a major participant in developing and implementing spatial data standards. Will provide training and advanced level output for GIS application.
Location: Naples, Italy. Working onsite at client location.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure geospatial products are in compliance with applicable specification.
Construct spatial databases and apply attribution as needed.
Edit spatial and tabular data.
Create functional GIS models using both raster and vector data.
Establish complex relational database joins and queries using ArcGIS and other commercially available software.
Identify new processes and procedures within a project
Produce professional quality maps and tabular outputs for presentations.
Will require GPS field work during collection of utilities data
Adhere to quality control procedures.
Education and Experience:
Must have Bachelors degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering or other similar degree that prepares the candidate for managing utilities GIS in an enterprise system.
Must have 3 years experience and a GISP certification or equivalent.
Desired experience and skills ArcGIS, experience with the Navy data model and Spatial Data Standards for Facility, Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE), experience with GPS field data collection, experience with utility systems, exposure or knowledge of iNFADS and MAXIMO, knowledge of AutoCAD.
Good written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Ability to meet project deadlines.
Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Travel and Allowances:
There is likely to be travel in the region including but not limited to: Naval sites in Bahrain, Spain, Greece, Romania and Poland.
Housing allowance will be included.
Duties are performed in an office environment.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers and clients. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
Must be able to identify and distinguish colors, distances and spatial relationships.
