Summary: Geocgi is looking for an experienced GIS System Architect to design, develop, enhance, test, debug, and implement GIS software in accordance with software development best practices. The candidate will work from the client site in Washington DC. The GIS System Architect Engineer must be a self—starter and will be responsible for developing and deploying robust backend technology to power today’s modern web-GIS architectures. The candidate will build responsive, interactive, data-driven experiences that rely on powerful backend server capabilities that operate in secure, scalable, and highly reliable configurations. The candidate will execute the responsibilities of a GIS System Architect, which include:
• Implement proven IT/GIS strategies for platform architecture
• Experience with high availability systems and troubleshooting platform issues
• Design architecture solutions to support multiple systems feeding data into ArcGIS Enterprise
• Experience with AWS and Azure cloud environments
• Understanding of ArcGIS Enterprise scaling and implications
• Work closely and actively with customers and partners to identify, design, and certify key GIS workflows for the ArcGIS enterprise platform
• Server-side Java development for many client experiences writing scalable, reusable, and maintainable code
• Design and build REST interfaces
• Work collaboratively to understand requirements and incorporate them into the software
• Provide comprehensive technical design specifications and support documentation

The following are requirements of the potential candidate:

• Bachelor’s or master’s in geography, computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or a related field, depending on position level
• Programming experience with Java
• Knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or DB2
• Experience with Java IDE’s, i.e. Eclipse/IntelliJ IDEA
• Detailed understanding of web services including SOAP and REST
• Knowledge of working with a source control system, preferably GIT
• Experience with Agile software development teams
• Top Secret Clearance
• CompTia Security +

The following are desired capabilities and experience of the potential candidate:

• 5+ years’ experience designing, implementing, and/or administrating Esri enterprise GIS solutions/systems
• Experience with HTTP monitoring and JDK debugging tools
• Familiarity with JSON and XML
