The role:

Join our team and operate the state highway video vehicle to capture footage for ODOTís Digital Video Log program. You will travel all over the beautiful state of Oregon and process video images and road asset data. If youíre looking for a unique way to put your engineering skills to work, apply today!

A day in the life:

Maintain data in ODOTís TransInfo road asset database.

Make basic engineering computations and research plans to determine various data elements.

Recommend changes to highway milepoint equations, numbering of interchange ramps and new highway alignments.

Translate and enter construction plans and other data into TransInfo.

Operate a state-owned vehicle and record video and still images of road segments according to program production schedules.

Edit and produce a library of footage from the field, ensuring accuracy and technical quality.

Prepare special video segments for use in legal proceedings.

Must be able to drive, walk, climb a ladder, stand, bend, stoop and sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 60 pounds.

From approximately May 1 through September, you will be planning weekly trips around the state to collect Digital Video Log data. You will travel away from Salem 2 or 3 weeks per month, with overnight stays throughout the state Monday-Thursday. Weekend work required on rare occasions.

Work in a vehicle, operating a computer tablet and video equipment while vehicle is in motion. This work will take place on a varying network of highways, in varying conditions, throughout the state.

When not in the field, work in a typical office or telework environment helping to maintain a wide array of the unitís data products.

What we need:

Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.

OR

An Associate's degree in Engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering and two years of experience directly related to engineering.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Note: If you are currently a transportation maintenance specialist 2 (TMS2) or have been one in the past, in addition to your completed application, please attach section three of your TMS2 position description to receive full credit for your related work. If your experience includes work in multiple maintenance disciplines (e.g. highway, sign, bridge, striping or landscape) please attach section three of the position description for each of the relevant disciplines.

Under-fill option: The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at an engineering specialist 2 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for an engineering specialist 1 ($2,759 - $4,241) to apply, as we may consider under-filling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for an engineering specialist 1. Under-fill training will not exceed three years.

What we need for an engineering specialist 1 under-fill:

Eighteen months of experience directly related to engineering;

OR

An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology from a community college or technical school;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
