Title: Geodetic Engineering Supervisor
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Directs and coordinates activities of the geodetic department in processing of aerial and ground control for remote sensing sensors. Performs measurements of large areas of the Earth's surface using satellite observations, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), or related sources. Responsible supervising the ground survey teams and collection activities and training in support of geodetic activities in field operations. Responsible for performing the following duties personally or through subordinate personnel and also performs production work in these areas as required.
Conduct surveys to determine exact positions using maps, photographs, tools, measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas, volumes, contours, or other features of land surfaces.
Compute horizontal and vertical coordinates of control networks and points on the earths surface using direct leveling or other geodetic survey techniques such as triangulation, trilateration, and traversing to establish features of the earth's surface.
Compute, retrace, or adjust existing surveys of features such as highway alignments, property boundaries, utilities, control and other surveys to match the ground elevation-dependent grids, geodetic grids, or property boundaries to ensure accuracy and continuity of data used in engineering, surveying, or construction projects.
Survey land or bodies of water to measure or determine features and maintain databases of geodetic and related information including coordinate, descriptive, or quality assurance data and verify the mathematical correctness of newly collected survey data.
Analyze control or survey data to ensure adherence to project specifications or land survey standards and correct field collection errors or engineering surveying deficiencies.
Assess the quality of control data to determine the need for additional survey data for engineering, construction, or other projects.
Maintains survey hardware and software and functional capabilities and identifies enhancement opportunities.
Develops and maintains process documentation and develops control plans as required to include review of existing standards, controls, or equipment used with recommending changes or upgrades and identifying new technology opportunities.
Plan or direct the work of geodetic surveying staff, providing technical consultation.
Supervises assigned team(s) including performance management and manages workflow, develops schedules, and maintains appropriate staffing levels to meet all project schedule requirements.
Provide staff training and interpretation in the use of methods or procedures for observing and checking controls for geodetic and plane coordinates.
Delivers reports to management as required and provides reports on compiled geodetic data to customers.
Develops and maintains relationships with internal departments and external vendors and clients as needed.
Read current literature, talk with colleagues, continue education, or participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in technology, equipment, or systems.
Other duties as required.
Oversees field employees in the Geodetic and field operations department.
Bachelors degree in geodetic engineering or related field.
A. minimum of five years experience in remote sensing and surveying is required. Must have the ability to manage a group of technical non-exempt employees, maintaining a high degree of motivation and focus within the department. Must be detail oriented, ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a changing environment. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication leadership and motivational skills with a strong commitment to quality required.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
