Position Description:
We are seeking a fully-remote, Technical Project Manager with a strong background in GIS technologies, software development lifecycles, and cloud-based infrastructure to lead multiple geospatial development projects. This role will oversee cross-functional teams composed of Front-End and Back-End Developers, GIS Enterprise Administrators, and Cloud Architects, ensuring the successful delivery of high-performance, scalable geospatial applications. The ideal candidate will have experience managing Esri-based GIS projects, coordinating development workflows, and communicating effectively with both technical teams and enterprise clients. This is a leadership role that requires strategic thinking, technical fluency, and a passion for delivering impactful geospatial solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership: Lead multiple concurrent GIS development projects from initiation through delivery, ensuring alignment with client goals, timelines, and budgets.
Team Coordination: Manage cross-functional teams including front-end developers, back-end developers, and GIS administrators. Facilitate collaboration and remove blockers.
Technical Oversight: Provide architectural feedback and ensure integration across Esri technologies, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), and custom APIs.
Project Management: Implement project management methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), manage sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.
Technical Quality Assurance: Validate architectural decisions and Front-End performance metrics (rendering speed, accessibility) alongside standard QA testing strategies.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain project documentation, status reports, and risk assessments. Present updates to stakeholders and leadership.
Required Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain a federal government Public Trust or Security Clearance.
Project Management Experience: 5+ years managing technical projects or leading engineering teams in a geospatial context.
GIS & Esri Expertise: Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and Esri SDKs (JavaScript, Python)
Cloud & DevOps Knowledge: Understanding of AWS/Azure environments, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized deployments.
Technical Fluency: Ability to understand and communicate across front-end, back-end, and infrastructure domains.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interaction and team leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current/Previous Common Access Card (CAC) holder.
PMP or Agile certification (Scrum Master, PMI-ACP).
Experience with geospatial data formats (GeoJSON, WMS/WMTS), RESTful APIs, and spatial databases (PostGIS, SQL Server).
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
